IDW Publishing to release Hello Kitty mystery box in 2027

IDW Publishing announced that it will release a Hello Kitty mystery box in 2027, as reported by ICv2. The release marks the first blind box for IDW Publishing as well as the first mystery book box for the Hello Kitty franchise. [1]

According to ICv2, the blind box package will contain a graphic novel with a variant cover, a keychain figurine, and additional items. The publisher aims to adapt collectible blind bag mechanics from the comic book industry to the broader book market. [1]

Tara McCrillis, President Operations and Associate Publisher at IDW Publishing, stated that blind bags turned collecting into an event in the comics world. She added that the goal of the initiative is to make reading feel as exciting as hunting for a rare variant cover. [1]

The announcement follows IDW Publishing's earlier disclosure at ComicsPRO that it had secured licensing to publish Hello Kitty comics, ICv2 reported. The initial story arc, titled Hello Kitty: Hello World!, was written by Mariko Tamaki with art by Cody Lemieux and launched in July. [1]
