Hundreds of people have signed a letter supporting Irish author Sally Rooney and her publisher Faber as they demand government action, according to The Bookseller. The open letter follows decisions to withdraw Rooney's titles from the United Kingdom market and bookshops, Monthly Review, nss magazine, and Around Prague reported. [1][2][3][7]

The Indian Express reported that the issue centres on a UK boycott involving Rooney's titles, while Prospect Magazine reported that Faber's decision to stop supplying the books to British retailers is not an overreaction. As FTMQ Books reported earlier, Faber stopped supplying Rooney's books in all formats because British legislation prevents the publisher from paying UK royalties to her due to her support for Palestine Action, which is a proscribed organisation under UK law. [4][5][6][11]

Rooney is an Irish author who wrote the novels Conversations with Friends, Normal People, Beautiful World, Where Are You, and Intermezzo. She graduated in English from Trinity College Dublin and self-identifies as a Marxist who advocates for causes including Palestinian solidarity. [8][10]

The open letter calls for government intervention to address the regulatory and legal situation affecting the author and the publisher, according to The Bookseller. [1]
