Blumhouse and Universal have released the first teaser trailer for the horror film The Exorcist: Martyrs. Variety and The Hollywood Reporter reported that actor Chiwetel Ejiofor alongside writer, director, and producer Mike Flanagan unveiled the trailer at New York City Comic Con. The film is scheduled for release in theaters on March 12, 2027, according to Deadline Film Adaptations and Variety. [1][2][3]

The film stars Scarlett Johansson as a homicide detective who investigates a series of gruesome murders. Deadline Film Adaptations gives the character name as Detective Judy Miller or Detective Julie Miller, while The Hollywood Reporter identifies her as NYPD homicide detective Julie Miller. The story follows her realization that she is tracking a demonic killer rather than an ordinary murderer, according to Deadline Film Adaptations and Variety. [1][2][3]

The film features additional performances by Chiwetel Ejiofor as a priest and John Leguizamo as a killer known as Father Sunday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Variety reported that the plot involves gruesome murders committed inside a church. [2][3]

The production represents a reboot of the long-running film franchise. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the project comes three years after a previous attempt by Universal to reboot the property. [3]
