A television series sequel to Crazy Rich Asians has been ordered at HBO, news outlets reported on 8 October 2026. According to Deadline and IndieWire, original co-writer Adele Lim will showrun and executive produce the hour-long drama series. The project comes from Lim, director Jon M. Chu, and author Kevin Kwan, Deadline reported. [6][8]
The entire main cast is returning for the new series, reports Collider Book Adaptations. Outlets including UPI and E! News reported that original cast members Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh, and Ronny Chieng will reunite for the production. The show marks the first series order since the completed merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Merced Sun-Star and The State also reported that the long-awaited project is moving forward as a television show rather than a feature film. [4][5][7]
The original 2018 romantic comedy drama film was directed by Jon M. Chu from a screenplay by Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim, adapted from Kevin Kwan's 2013 novel of the same name. The movie follows a Chinese American professor, Rachel, who travels to Singapore with her boyfriend Nick and discovers that his family is among the richest in Singapore.
