Disney Plus has announced a new six-part Japanese supernatural mystery series titled Night Tales Club, according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline. The anthology series adapts a collection of short horror stories written by Japanese author Ichi Sawamura. The platform unveiled the adaptation alongside a teaser trailer and first-look pictures, with a planned release set for January 2027. [1][2]
The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline both report that the narrative follows a successful businessman named Hojo, played by actor Takayuki Yamada, who is obsessed with the inexplicable and attempts to solve major mysteries. Each of the six episodes will be helmed by a different director. The directorial lineup includes genre filmmaker Kiyoshi Kurosawa, who previously directed Cure and Wife of a Spy, as well as Shimizu Takashi. [1][2][6][9]
The adaptation expands on recent trends of screen adaptations taken from published horror literature. Star Takayuki Yamada previously achieved international visibility through film roles such as Crows Zero, and has expanded his work in television production alongside his acting career. [1][9]
