Zimbabwean writer Simbarashe Steyn Kundizeza has won the 2026 Caine Prize for African Writing, Literary Hub reported. He won the award for his short story titled The Blue Fighter, which was originally published by The Shallow Tales Review in 2025. Literary Hub described the winning piece as gripping, moving, and beautifully crafted. [1]

The Caine Prize awards £10,000 annually to the best short story written by an African writer living on the continent or in the diaspora, Literary Hub reported. The award is given each year for a short story published in the English language. [1][9]

The prize was founded in the United Kingdom in 2000 and named in memory of Sir Michael Harris Caine, who was the former chairman of Booker Group and the Booker Prize management committee. Ellah Wakatama was appointed Chair of the Board in 2019. [9]
