Sony Pictures Classics is releasing the indie film The Only Living Pickpocket in New York in theaters over the weekend, Deadline and IndieWire reported. The movie stars John Turturro as a veteran thief navigating modern-day Manhattan. [1][2]

The project was produced under Rian Johnson's T-Street banner with producers Leopold Hughes and Katie McNeill, according to IndieWire. Writer and director Noah Segan shot the production on location in New York City to lean into the environment of the setting, IndieWire said. [2][3]

The crime thriller premiered earlier in the year at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in January, IndieWire reported. Beside John Turturro, the ensemble cast features Giancarlo Esposito, Will Price, Tatiana Maslany, and Steve Buscemi. [2][7]

The specialty film rollout arrives alongside several other awards-season contenders opening in theaters, Deadline reported. The theatrical release comes amidst broader economic slowdowns affecting independent film productions, according to IndieWire. [1][2][4]
