More than 150 publishers and publishing organizations have called on the European Union and the German government to demand full transparency from artificial intelligence developers, Читомо reported. The trade groups are urging regulators to force technology companies to disclose all copyrighted published works used to train their software models. [1]

The demand is detailed in the Frankfurt Appeal, an initiative published by the German Publishers and Booksellers Association, according to Читомо. Publishers from all over the world, including companies in Ukraine, are being encouraged to sign the document. [1]

The appeal is addressed directly to the European Commission, the European Parliament and the German government, Читомо reported. Publishers based outside Germany can sign the petition by emailing the organizers, while German publishers can submit their signatures directly through the official webpage for the appeal. [1]

The signatories maintain that artificial intelligence companies are using copyrighted written works to train their models without permission, according to Читомо. The appeal asks European lawmakers to take three specific actions to address copyright enforcement and training data transparency. [1]
