The Haitian Times reported that Edwidge Danticat's novel Dey has been named a finalist for the 2026 National Book Award for Fiction. The book is one of five titles shortlisted for the award. [1]

Published by the Pen imprint Knopf, the novel follows a Haitian American real estate agent based in Miami. According to The Haitian Times, the story tracks the protagonist as she navigates trauma, family relationships, mourning and her connections to Haiti. [1]

The nomination marks another milestone in Danticat's career. The Haitian Times noted that she was previously shortlisted for the National Book Award for her story collection Krik? Krak! and her memoir Brother, I am Dying. Danticat was also named the Wun Tsun Tam Mellon Professor of the Humanities at Columbia University in 2023. [1][3][5]

As FTMQ Books reported earlier, the National Book Foundation selected 25 finalists across five categories on October 6, 2026. The winners will receive 10,000 dollars, a bronze medal, and a statue at the annual ceremony in New York City. [2][6][7]
