Filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón reflected on his experience directing the feature film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban during a master class at the Busan International Film Festival. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning director stated that making the film was two of the most beautiful years of his life. He shared the stage at the festival with director Yeon Sang-ho. [1]
The Hollywood Reporter reported that Cuarón admitted he was initially a little reluctant to take on the project when the opportunity first came to him. The adaptation stands out in his filmography because it is one of the few projects that he did not develop and write himself. [1]
During festival appearances at Busan, Cuarón also discussed his broader philosophy on life and filmmaking. Variety reported that Cuarón emphasized putting life before cinema, stating that life as an experience is what he now cares about the most. Deadline reported that he also spoke alongside his son Jonás Cuarón about the future of cinema, noting that the theatrical experience will continue while coexisting with other formats. [5][7]
The Harry Potter franchise began as a series of seven fantasy novels written by British author J. K. Rowling. The books follow the lives of young wizard Harry Potter and his friends at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as they oppose the dark wizard Lord Voldemort. [9]
