Independent bookshops and major retail chains are phasing out books by children's author David Walliams following a decision by HarperCollins to drop him. The Bookseller reported that several independent bookshops stopped stocking his titles years ago, while large chains including The Works and TG Jones are selling through remaining stock with no plans to order more. [1]

The retail shifts follow an announcement last month that HarperCollins will cease publishing Walliams' backlist, ending a 17-year publishing relationship with the writer. According to The Bookseller, the publisher decided in December to drop him and cancel future titles after allegations of inappropriate behaviour were reported by the Daily Telegraph. Walliams has denied the allegations. [1]

Walliams is an English actor, comedian, and television personality who gained prominence on the BBC sketch series Little Britain before becoming a successful children's author. He has sold more than 50 million book copies globally. [2]

HarperCollins is a global book publishing subsidiary of News Corporation, originally formed through the integration of American publisher Harper and Row and British publisher William Collins, Sons and Company. [4]
