Organisers revealed the shortlist for the 2026 Booker Prize on September 22 in London. UA.NEWS reported that six English-language novels were chosen for the final round out of approximately one thousand entries. Renowned classicist, writer, and television host Mary Bird is serving as the chair of this year's jury. [1]

The final selection includes works by authors Marlon James, Douglas Stuart, and Elizabeth Strout, according to UA.NEWS. The group of finalists features two previous Booker Prize winners, one debut novel, and three authors who are making their first appearance on the shortlist. [1]

As FTMQ Books reported earlier, a series of short films directed by Holly Blakey was produced to promote the nominated books. Prominent actors, including Himesh Patel, Maxine Peake, Lewis Gribben, Kathryn Hunter, Paterson Joseph, and Savannah Steyn, recorded readings from the shortlisted titles for the promotional project. [10]

The Booker Prize has been awarded every year since 1969 for the best original full-length novel written in English, according to Wikipedia. The competition was originally restricted to citizens of the Commonwealth of Nations or the Republic of Ireland, but it was opened in 2014 to any eligible English-language work published in the United Kingdom. [9]

UA.NEWS reported that the shortlist announcement details the plots of the books and information regarding the jury members. As FTMQ Books reported earlier, the ultimate winner of the literary award receives a grand prize of 50,000 pounds. [1][10]
