Actors star in short films for Booker Prize shortlist

A new series of short films features actors reading extracts from the books shortlisted for the 2026 Booker Prize, AOL.ca and Deadline reported. The cast includes Himesh Patel and Maxine Peake, alongside Lewis Gribben, Kathryn Hunter, Paterson Joseph and Savannah Steyn. Director and choreographer Holly Blakey directed the promotional short films, Deadline added. [1][2][3][4][5][6]

The project uses actors to bring the shortlisted titles to life through recorded readings. The performers involved are recognized for various screen roles, such as Gribben in Black Mirror, Hunter in Black Doves, Joseph in Wonka, Patel in The Odyssey, Peake in I Swear and Steyn in House of the Dragon, Deadline reported. Patel began his acting career playing Tamwar Masood in EastEnders and starred in the series Station Eleven. Peake is an English actress known for her television roles in dinnerladies, Shameless and Silk, as well as playing the title role in a stage production of Hamlet. [7][8]

The Booker Prize is awarded annually for the best single work of sustained English fiction published in the United Kingdom or Ireland. The winning author receives 50,000 pounds, alongside global visibility that generally drives a notable increase in book sales. [9]
