Prime Video has released The Greatest, a new biographical drama miniseries following the life of former undisputed heavyweight champion boxer Muhammad Ali. IndieWire reported that creator Ben Watkins discussed the production of the show at a recent panel presented with Prime Video. Collider Book Adaptations reported that executive producer Michael B. Jordan worked on the project, which focuses on Ali's career and personal journey. [1][2][6]
IndieWire reported that Watkins aimed to humanize Ali for audiences rather than presenting him solely as an established icon. The production team faced several creative challenges, including costume changes at the Colosseum and obtaining a last-minute original song from Wyclef Jean. The series features Jaalen Best in the starring role as Ali. [1][6]
The television project was produced by Amazon MGM Studios in collaboration with the estate of Muhammad Ali. The series received the official blessing and involvement of Ali's family, with his widow Lonnie Ali serving as an executive producer alongside Josh Wakely and Michael B. Jordan. It premiered on the streaming platform on November 4, 2026. [1][2][6]
The release comes a decade after the boxer passed away at the age of 74. Collider Book Adaptations noted that the miniseries joins a growing trend of sports dramas on streaming platforms, where both fictional stories and documentary series have achieved significant viewer popularity in recent years.
