Local historian A.J. Schenkman has authored a new non-fiction book titled A History Lover's Guide to the Hudson Valley, New York Almanack reported. The book is published by History Press in 2026. Schenkman traces the historical developments across the region, which encompasses events ranging from Native American history through to the Gilded Age. [1]

According to New York Almanack, the book highlights several historic locations along the Hudson River. These places include Newburgh, which served as General George Washington's longest-held headquarters during the Revolutionary War, and Kingston, the former Dutch colonial settlement that became the first capital of New York State. It also covers Hyde Park, home to the country's first presidential library, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum. [1]

The Hudson River Valley comprises the Hudson River and its adjacent communities within New York State. The region extends from the Capital District including Albany and Troy in the north, southward to Yonkers in Westchester County near New York City. The corridor has played a critical historical role in trade, European colonization, and military strategy since the early seventeenth century. [3][4]
